What is an HGV Mechanic?
Here at Dualway and Need A Bus, we are often asked what exactly is an HGV Mechanic? So today, we have decided to answer that and some of the other questions we get asked about what exactly an HGV mechanic is and what they do!
What does the 'HGV' mean?
HGV stands for Heavy Goods Vehicle. This means that an HGV Mechanic is a person who would repair, maintain and test heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses and agricultural machinery, to name but a few.
How much can an HGV Mechanic earn?
Loads! Well, that depends on what you define as loads. A fully qualified HGV Mechanic can earn anything from €40,000 – €50,000 per year. Of course, it does depend on your experience and company. But it is quite a well-played profession.
How can you become an HGV Mechanic?
That is a question that we get asked a lot! Becoming an HGV Mechanic is similar to becoming a car mechanic. People who wish to venture into the Heavy Goods Vehicle Industry would have to take part in a level 6 apprenticeship.
This is a four-year apprenticeship, which you can learn more about here, where at the end, you will become a fully qualified Heavy Goods Vehicle Mechanic with a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Heavy Vehicle Mechanics to your name!
From there, your career is in your hands with future opinions and pathways completely open to you.
Here at Dualway & Need Bus, we are always looking to take on new recruits, so should you think a career in HGV Mechanics is for you, be sure to pop us an email at info@dualway.com and our team will advise you.
